Originally it was a way to express myself. It still is, but these days a lot of it is about community and my extended family. When I first started there were few of us out there. In the time that I started and now, it’s exploded into something amazing.
Also, the workout is great. I have a chest thanks to fanning & flagging. LOL
I’ve been fanning/flagging for about 9 years. It was a chance encounter with Candida Scott Piel that got me started.
It was a chance encounter with Candida Scott Piel that got me started. I heard her speaking at an awards program about community, the tribe, etc. Later that evening I was invited to a private party and there she was. After tell her how much I appreciated what she had said, she put a pair of rags in my hands.
To date it was New Years in NYC at Capitale Ballroom.
Since I organize the fanner/flagger access to the dressing rooms, for the Saint-at-Large, it is really incredible to watch the stage from the 2nd flr of Roseland Ballroom.
Candida Scott Piel is my Fan/flag mother.
I feel that I learn from everybody I see playing.
It was at the last Steel Ball in Pittsburgh. Flagging on a 3 story scaffolding.
I hand sew my rags. I tried using a sewing machine once, but it just didn’t feel right. Fans are a real craft that I enjoy the time I spend on. The creating of their design, construction, etc.
The type I make depends on the fabric and what has inspired me.
Recently my muse has been my boyfriend. It has been a couple of years since I made a set, but he inspired me with his joy and enthusiam about fanning/flagging.
Relax and just go with the flow. Let your body lead you.
And the a real cliche "It’s not about the destination, it’s about the journey"

S@L Flaggers Lounge List 3 years, 2 months ago · View
I will clarify this.
In the mid 90s this PRIVILEGE was granted to the community.
It IS for storing bags, chilling out, catching up with friend & meeting new
family.
We need a headcount to make sure the room we choose is large enough, especially
this year as the room location has changed.
Also, with all things offered for nothing there are those who abuse the
privilege to no end. This list is a way to curb that kind of behavior.
Beardbabe is correct about S@L’s liberal policy, but let’s be clear that if
their name is not on the list, they’ll be asked to give it at the time of entry.
Is this clear enough? Any questions?
Ask them here & I’ll do what I can to answer them.
Best,
Phillip

Hey Friends,
Some last minute things.
The Saint at Large is not responsible for anything you leave in this room.
The paid security outside the hallway is not there to guard your things.
There will be Roseland staff & Saint at Large staff using the hallway outside
the room.
That said we need people to monitor the room. Give some time to keep an eye
things. This sharing of time has been done in the past with great success. I’m
available after 10am to be hall monitor.
Any out there want to make a sash. LOL
See you on the……er everywhere.

THIS LIST IS NOT A COMP INTO THIS PARTY!!!
This list is a courtesy to those coming who flag/fan/poi and is ONLY a place to
store your flag/fan/poi bags, NOT extra "luggage". Put all extra bags in Coat
Check.
PLEASE post questions here. DO NOT EMAIL ME DIRECTLY.
Thank you
Phillip

Phillip on Saturday to put you on the list for the lounge. All lists are to be
submitted to S@L by this date, for that the focus could be on the
set-up/production. Spread the word, alert those not yet on the list.
