My History

What was your first flagging experience?

Flagging in public, was a big fear for me. I had only learned the preliminary basics..and practiced on my own, really.
Was up in DC in 2002 with a friend, who also flags. I had made flags particularly for that party, but had been petrified of opening them all weekend. We were at Nation for the closing party…and went to the "smaller" dancefloor. He flagged with mine, and said they were awesome. He offered to go get me a drink, i said sure. He told me…play with them in here…no one’s looking anyway. So i shyly started throwing them…after a while i REALLY started getting into the music, and flagging to it. Guess a while had passed…my friend shows up with a huge grin on his face. He said: "I’ve been watching u…you’re great…u make it seem effortless!"
Needless to say…i was hooked to the way it made me feel…and how i could lose myself in it.


What was one of your best flagging experiences?

Hotlanta 2002 – My friend was a photographer for a So. Fla. gay rag. So he had the in’s on all the events. Told me to wear white for the Friday night party. I had my "cross flags" that Larry Reigel from PA made…and i had white jeans on. When i got in the mood, i got up on the box and pulled out my flags. Was totally sober the whole time…had been on the box a while, didnt feel like that long to me. Someone taps my leg…i turn and it’s one of the security guards. Thought he was gonna tell me to get off the box. But he smiles…and tells me…you should take a break. I asked "really?" He said yes…u’ve been up there more than an hour! I laughed..stepped down to get water. Chuckled as i walked away, because others were trying to get on the box to dance…the security guard was keeping them off. He was saving my box for me!
That night i felt like a "Star".

    Hey guy, Can’t wait to flag with you on the beach! I can’t wait to smell the Salt air and the sand under my feet with flags in my hands. Just got two new pairs from Phillip…..Hope your day is stellar.

    ….really looking forward to Tampa trip now even more. Have to Skate everyday in the morning but have afternoons free…….
