How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

Medium experience, wanting to experiment. After a year of establishing Flagmania I would say we are ready to be pushed to our limit! Sometimes things move too slow for me. I would love to do some choreography myself I think! I am getting the hang of this wonderful craft- a natural mover as I love dance and Ive done a bit of podium dancing in my time.

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

I was hoooked when we took part in our Pride March last year – our first gig. It was a perfect Adelaide summers day. The sun was shining on our brown shirtless bodies through the lame’ and the world was loving us and cheering us on! What a feeling! I love the freedom of the movement, thesmiles on the people faces watching us. To me it reflects freedom, not that much different than going naked down the street or exclaiming how proud one is to be gay! It is pure adrenalin and excitement performing as a group with flagging! I also love the team aspect. Many of us have been mates for 10-12 years and its great we have come together to do this!

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

Just over a year. We were asked to gather guys for the Adelaide pride march to be a marching boys float. Then we discovered we were going to flag, whatever that was. Adelaide had no flagger troupe. In fact the only one in Australia was a very casual informal gathering called The Marching Flags, used for the Sydney MardiGras. Here in Adelaide most people had never seen or heard of flagging. For the Pride MArch we were dressed in pink hotpants and it was all very camp. We were then called The Adelaide Pride Flaggers.
Since then we wwent on to grow our own formal community based flagging troupe called Flagmania. The process was long but really fun and exciting but we learnt the crafyt and have done a few gigs over the last first year. This month we are plastered all over our cities gay newspaper. (Check out our site) We have a lot of fun woth much more fun to be had!

What was your first flagging experience?

Pride March here in Adelaide in 2005

What was one of your best flagging experiences?

Adelaide Pride March 2005 and Adelaide Fringe Parade 2005

Who has inspired or taught you?

Jamie Jewell, our choreographer who has learnt to flag from The Sydney Marching Flags

What was one of your wildest or craziest flagging experiences?

Flagging for the Lets Get Equal same sex marriage campaign on the steps of the Adelaide Parliament House! Flagging to Timewarp from Rocky Horror! -lots of weird looks!

Do you make your own sets? Can you describe what kind you make?

We havent had to make sets as yet but we make our own flags.

Quick tie dye question   4 years, 7 months ago · View

I notice you guys at your tie dye events sometimes use plastic tubs with a white grate over the top. May I ask what they are, and where you bought those. This enables me to track the product here in Asutralia.

I can see they would help prevent colour mixing as any excess dye would drop through underneath.

    Thanks guys

    Nix

First ever Second Life flagger!   5 years, 1 month ago · View

I created ‘flags’ inworld in Second Life using my own first tie dye flags as the template. Also I have used Xaviers flags inworld as well.

I have also experimented with kooky headgear and glow staff. Flags move fast and in time with music. There are lots of parties and raves inworld in which to perform.

What is Second Life? Go here:

Look out for and join the only Second Life Flagger ‘Group’ called Second Life Flaggers.

I’d LOVE to have you join me for a flag inworld sometime soon! I can give you some of my flags and we can develop even better ones together.
