another pair of 360s. faric is a cool green/yellow nylon, the spines are ninja spines (from i dunno, kinda ninja fans from chinatown). the dowels were too heavy for the fans so, the new dowels are actually three spines glued together per dowel. the spines themselves are all hand-painted.
hard to tell, but these are my largest and heaviest set of fans, the "angel wings." the fabric was not expensive (let’s put it that way). the fans are white on white on white (white fabric on white spines and white dowels). these are almost my favorite set of fans to play. they have a mind of their own, can be huge and sometimes play so small that you would not believe how big they really are. i’ll upload a better picture of the fans themselves in a few...
a photo i took sunday at the flagging in the park event here in sf. the black borders around the swirl of a set of xavier’s flags are not photoshop or anything like that. i was using my telephoto lens, and if i do not zoom IN enough, i get part of the interior of the telephoto lens as a sort of "border" or "frame" for the image. honestly, i like the effect, especially in a photo like this. notice a hand emerging from behind the flag...
the one and only time i ever flew these flags. they were white silk, but someone stepped all over them one night at the ’dome. i made the flags while taking care of one of my closest friends - and literally finished the flags right before he died. but they got crapped up when stepped on, so dyed them purple -- my friend would approve the color and it covered up the foot prints. however, i made a handle to be able to dunk the flags into the dye (being a dye-ing clueless wonder) -- and that’s where the "eyes" came from.
these flags are now in the hands of cs-p. the photo is from 2000 at the stop aids benefit -- after the awards were given out, they had 3 hours of music from a great dj too. it turns out the award i was given that night was in fact named for my friend who had died earlier that year (when i was finishing up these flags). tough night.
