responsing to randy re: 92.7 parties   4 years, 11 months ago · View

    randy (and everyone else too)

last year gabriel and dresden were the featured DJs at the 92.7 birthday bash (their party celebrating their 2nd or 3rd year here — i forget which). it was in the old movie-theater space on van ness (great space, a few levels, etc.).

as usual i was traveling with my fans because i was way psyched to both hear gabriel and dresden in such a great venue and to fan to them dj-ing (their recent album is pretty spectacular…imho and they are local talent).

needless to say no black lights. needless to say very much the demographic you described randy.

they had some live group upstairs for way too long so we went downstairs where the DJ was horrible but the space was great.  i fanned for a good while — the only problem was the DJ who had something against segues, not to mention a dislike for consistency and an aversion to decent music.  those little problems aside, he liked to step away from the dj booth and stand at the end of the stage and try to get the audience to clap the beat with him as if we were in a stadium rock show and he was now steve perry from journey…  truly surreal and truly annoying.

for gabriel and dresden, there was no room, no space and no way to fight the crowd for space for fanning.  not at all. i’m not shy about trying to carve out a small plot of floor for the fans and i am also aware of futility when i see it.  it was futile.

like a broken record, i ended up at the End Up fanning as usual in the backyard.  music was great as i expected it to be (david harness — but i heart david and his music so i got what i wanted), the crowd was as it always is at the end up, and by now they know me and are very cool about fanning in the backyard. sucked that the gabriel and dresden set was too packed and too humid and in too implausible a space for really even a good dance party (more like cramming a shoreline amphitheater crowd into the powerhouse for a concert). what little i heard of their set was a blast; my friends who stayed said hey were really great and a lot of fun.

i was bummed to see that somewhat clueless response from 92.7. the warehouse idea sounded rather cool.

so, with that being a dud, what are the possibilities for something on friday? or even thursday? or sunday following the pride event (after david harness is done dj-ing his set at the event once the parade is done i mean…?)..

     :)  ?

Visiting SF Bay Area This weekend.   5 years, 3 months ago · View

matinĂ©e is probably the best bet for flagging/fanning — but i would
make one small adjustment to jim’s response to your question – friday
night, one can always go to the end up and flag in the back yard/patio
area. i hear someone is always fanning there on fridays anyway…

looks like it should be worthwhile for fanning/flagging!
