How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

Maya:First off I began as a "flag widow"- After time and much support of my beloved patner, I realized I was missing out on such a beautiful art form, and slowly bagan to learn. I would consider myself a good flagger, however there is a life of growth ahead of me.
Angel:

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

Maya:The self expression of each and every flagger. The love and support of the community is priceless!
Angel:

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

Maya:I have been flagging for over a year now and I could’nt picture life without it!!! I got started when I got fed up with being a "Flag Widow"!I wanted to have fun too!
Angel:

What was your first flagging experience?

Maya:My first experience was many years ago.(I am a native New Yorker who moved to the desert almost 6 years ago.)I was @ The White Party87′ @ The Saint(yes the original) and as I was dancing and shaking my tamberine when this cutie got up behind me and started flying his "RagFlags", I was mezmorized!!!
Angel:

What was one of your best flagging experiences?

Maya:A few months after learning the basics, tada, I learned how to cross over aka figure eight!!!At that moment I realized I was hooked for life.
Angel:

Who has inspired or taught you?

Maya:My honey, Angel was the first to make my first set for me, teach me the basics and support my new hobby. Now we are family members of "The Palm Springs Flaggots".What an awesome family.
Angel:

What was one of your wildest or craziest flagging experiences?

Maya:I don’t know if i would describe it as wildest or craziest(haven’t had that yet, being a babyflagger and all)But flagging for the whole parade while walking last year here in Palm Springs!!!
Angel:

Do you make your own sets? Can you describe what kind you make?

Maya:Yes, I love making flags (silk, nylon, cotton, lame’), fans & poi. We love being able to make custom flags, fans and poi for the world! Our labour of love has become a way of life for us!!!!
However, when making silks (may fav), there is nothing better than having a set of cadillac fabric with gorgeous color! What ever mood strikes, I am able to save that feeling and share it with the world.

  • Greetings Daniel-

It was certainly a pleasure to meet you and your precious dog and
share with you the beauty of the Flagging community(and have someone
film and document our home workshop/office, sorry Angel had to be at
work) Thanks for the message this morning, we were sleeping.

Last nite was truly "magical",having the use of of "Oasis, as we do
every weekend to display our array of art ie. Flags, Fans & Poi.
Steve and John (new owners of Oasis) have done a wonderful job of
    renovating!!

And what a treat to have Daniel Van Olst(the sweetest man you could
ever meet!) and Rodger Belk be in town as well. I believe I counted a
total of 11 Flaggers in all.

We look forward to your return for White Party!

    Keep the dream alive-
    Live, Love & Laugh

    Love Always,
    Maya & Angel
