My History

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

Flagging adds color and life to dance! Looking at people just move their bodies is fine, but it can’t compete with the fiery beauty of a tie-dye silk in black light. I love mastering the color and movement like extensions of my arms. It’s beautful to watch.

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

I got started through meeting Phillip, Disney, Steve Reedy and many others in 2004. I kept seeing these rad flaggers at the parties. Finally, I just started bugging them until I found out when the next workshop was. I went to that workshop, and now my flags proceed me at the larger parties I attend.

What was your first flagging experience?

The Friday night before the flagging workshop with George Jargatic. I went to Crossroads to meet the other flaggers going out to Village. I’d never even picked up a pair of flags.

I saw this intimate mix of hippies and hotties standing to one side. They took me right in, and we made small talk. I met the awesome guys from San Antonio, and Phillip handed me some flags.

In the Village, I felt like I was learning to ride a bike. I had this new cool toy and no idea what to do with it. Phillip took me under his wing. He showed how to flag- first one direction, then the other. In a matter of minutes, I was as content as can be, completely zoned out. I flagged till my arms were falling off.

My husband, Dave, came toward the end. He picked up his exhausted husband, and brought him home to bed. Thanks everyone that was there that night for making it great!

What was one of your best flagging experiences?

Flagging at the Mayan New Years Afterhours was my favorite. There were 4-6 flaggers there from out of town, but no one had their flags (except the lesbian couple – women are so much more prepared) :-) My set from Phillip became communal property for the night for all the out of towners. And I became a tutor and inspiration for several people who wanted to learn. Since I only started flagging a year ago, it made me really happy to be able to mentor and help others.

I also learned how to fuse some of my "hip hop techno" dancing into a smoother style.

Plus, as the last song started at 1pm, I left my hip hop buddies, grasped my flags from our commune, and jumped centerstage for the last song. When I came back to them, they said they loved watching me "run with glee" to get in flagging on the last song.

I made some great friends, heard some great songs, had some great sex and worked off all my Christmas Fat- Woohooooo!!! Thanks LA!

Who has inspired or taught you?

I must give primary credit for my inspiration to our very own internet hero, Phillip Bryan. More than how he gave me my first lesson, the true value in Phillip’s flagging is his undauntable stand for creativity, self-expression and generosity. He is giving to a fault, and it requires you to be generous to the world in return when you are at receiving end of Phillip’s love. I’m also inspired by his constant "new flag inventions" and that hot body. If I can get ripped arms like that from Flagging, then I’m in! Thanks Phillip!

What advice do you give to beginning flaggers?

I say "Here, hold it like this. Now make a figure 8. Okay, go." I’ve always believed in Trial by Fire.

What nice/unusual comment has anyone said to you while flagging?

I "gleefully leaped to the stage for the last song."

Do you have an ultimate flagging experience that you would like to achieve, but have not yet?

Inside a larger mission of being paid to be famous, I want to flag on national television. I was already a go-go dancer on national television, so I’m getting there – baby steps people!

Also, I would love to successfully integrate my flags with my floor hip hop techno dancing, so that there is no difference between the two. The image that always comes to mind are the beautiful dresses worn by flamenco dancers. The dresses are not separate from the dance. They are one.

Do you have a wish for what happens to your flags after you leave this world?

That they are all given to little flagger orphan kids, like a great big gay episode of Annie!

Flaggers Wanted for Sat. Sept 8th at 10am, Addison   4 years, 9 months ago · View

    Hey y’all!!!

I am hosting a new monthly Singles Mixer starting on Sat Sept 8th at 10am – 11:30am. For our inaugural event, I am interested in starting our Mixer with one or two flaggers doing freestyle.

You will be performing one song toward the beginning of the event (then you are free to eat, hang out, or leave if you have plans). The event is at the Addison Studio Movie Grill (Beltline and Dallas Pkwy). You will be center stage at the front of the movie theater. We will have 40-50 people there.

Choose your favorite flagging song, and I will play it out through the loud speakers of the theater. We will also turn out all the lights if we can find some black lights.

You will get a full breakfast and are welcome to stay for the whole event. Because we are just starting up, there is no pay for this event, but you will get unlimited hugs from me and everyone else I can find! :-)

    Call me direct if you’re interested. (972) 365-8084 mark@littlelovecoach.com

    Love you guys!!

Sat Sept 8th Two Flagger Performance with Blacklights   4 years, 11 months ago · View

Hey all!!! We’re introducing a new monthly singles event called Smart Singles Dallas. All invited. The goal is to provide an educated approach to dating.

Our launching event is Sat Sept 8th at 10am-noon, at Addison Studio Movie Grill on Beltline Rd (north Dallas).

The event will probably have 60+ people. I’ll have two speakers there: Dee Frasier and myself. We will speak about dating and attraction.

I’m looking for a two-person flagging performance show in blacklight during the event. We can use the theater’s speaker system, and turn off all other lights in the theater. You can also put images on the movie screen behind you and blacklights on the ground pointing up. So it will be a GREAT venue for a performance.

Here’s what you will need: 1-song on CD or laptop, choreographed number, blacklights, your own costumes. (This is probably not a "shirtless" kind of event, since its a professional event and a mixed audience; but if its fun, that’s what matter!)

I can’t pay anything for this first event, but you can promote yourselves as a professional performer. I will also promote you, and you can have a table to sign people up to hear about how to book you for more events.

Some influential leaders in Dallas will be attending, and I expect the event to be huge! We have a huge tribe of awesome performers in Dallas, so I’m really excited to hear from you guys!! Please email me directly if you are interested. My email is mark@littlelovecoach.com

    With Love,

    Mark

As always, Thanks Phillip, and thanks to all you flaggers out there I haven’t met yet.

I will taking a 6-month "financial hiatus" from circuit parties till June 2005. However, I plan on flagging as much as possible at the new Station 4. By the way, how is it?

    Love,

    Mark

Hi gang!!! After a great Christmas in SF, Dave and I went to LA for New Year’s. Courtesy of Phillip, we found out that we were supposed to go to a little party place called Mayan. But we didn’t know they sell out two weeks early! So we didn’t make it in Mayan, but we DID go to the Mayan Afterhours at The Stock Exchange (4am – 1pm Saturday, along with the other 2,000 tourists who didn’t make it into Mayan!)

    We had a BLAST!!!!

I freakin started a flaggerboy.com CULT out there. New cult members include: Lesbian couple Kristen and her better half in SF, James in SF, and Simeon who will be our official Swiss contingency. He’s flying to New Zealand for 3 months, then returning to his home in Switzerland. And finally another woman who was my own personal whooping club as I took centerstage a few times at the Afterhours. They were all pretty experienced already.

I sent all of them and a few others to flaggerboy.com. Several people mentioned wanting to buy flags. As always, thanks
