My History

How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

I love flagging both as a form of self expression and as a performance art.

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

I love music, flagging allows me to really get into the music, to really dance, to reach that state of nirvana when I become one with my flags, one with my music, one with myself.

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

I have been flagging for nearly six years. Gave it up for a short while when I moved to Melbourne, Australia. But now I do it constantly, i’m so obsessed by it, it sometimes get in the way of work!!!

What was your first flagging experience?

A great american dj named Mark Bisson introduced me to flagging

Who has inspired or taught you?

DJ. Mark Bisson, check his music out at http://WWW.DJMarkbisson.com All his music is flagging friendly, he’s a flagger hismefl.

What was one of your wildest or craziest flagging experiences?

Do you make your own sets? Can you describe what kind you make?

No, I don’t have the skill or patience to make a set. But I’m planning on making just one set, in white (a) because I need them, and (b) just for practice

Where do you often like to flag?

in my apartment, clubs, the beach, the park, anywhere there is a place big enough. I travel around the world for work, so I want to flag in front of landmarks around the world. I’m planning a trip to Uluru in Alice Springs and I want to spin my flags there in honor and to pay homage to the aboriginal culture of Australia.

What are your favorite types of flags to work with, and why?

Not sure what different types there are, but just beautifully colored silk ones…

What advice do you give to beginning flaggers?

practice as often as you can. And oftentimes it’s not about technique, it’s about feeling the flags.

What nice/unusual comment has anyone said to you while flagging?

A straight man at a drum circle came up to me and said “man, you’re absolutely beautiful, your dancing is absolutely beautiful, and I can’t find the right words to tell you how great it was watching you dance.” I was very flattered.

Do you have an ultimate flagging experience that you would like to achieve, but have not yet?

I want to flag in a music video or in a movie, but most importantly at Uluru.

Do you have a wish for what happens to your flags after you leave this world?

I want them to go to my favorite people in the word, and I want them to remember me when they fly them.

What are your favorite songs to flag to?

Sting Desert – Rose
Seraphim Suite – Heart
Bob Sinclair – World Hold On, and a gazillion others!

Yesterday as I was teaching a friend, a woman came and watched, she stood a distance and the longer I spanned my flags the closer she got. I stopped, smiled at her, walked to my backpack and retrieved a set of flags, then I walked over to her and told her to join us. She loved it!
