This was my very first set of flags that I created with the help of Dan V. I made these in August 2006. Dan was a very patient and motivating teacher. Gentle in his style, this man’s heart is in everything he does. Dan I will treasure that night for years to come and these flags as well.
These are my second flag creation and the first set done completely on my own. I came home from work on Tuesday after Folsom Street weekend, with the party still fresh and prepared my silk. Then on Wednesday night I did the dye. I had fun folding these and seeing how they came out. This set became a gift set to my good friend Scott for his 40th birthday. He has been a big supporter of my flagging and has taught me things about spinning poi. When his 40th came around I gave him the option to take a set I had already made that he liked, or to set a date to make a set together. These went home with him.
Ok, I am getting carried away with dying this weekend - but what the heck. Another set, a new fold, some new ideas.
These flags have gone with me to the club many times, but the last visit out the rode next to a set of flags that ended up in my bag during the Recover T dance in SF for 2007. I took them home and posted a note and found out that Dr. K owned them. We arranged for him to get them at the next Sanctuary at MLK weekend, and I gave him these as well.
Playing with colors a bit, seeing how the blend and bleed and how effects of adding color in different ways deliver an end result. These are my favorite set so far and I had the joy of watching a couple friends flag with them. And ofcourse my ultimate joy was to gift these to my teacher, inspiration, and my friend Daniel.
Another simple fold, simple pattern and more playing with colors. I hoped these would all be green and yellow and such, but I managed to drop them into a little dark color so plans changed. These are a gift set I ended up giving to P Tyronne at FITP in October. His flags frayed and tore pretty bad that day, and he was just watching and I offered him a set to fly. They just needed to stay with him.
Made these while preparing for my buddy Mike to come over and dye his first set. These were named by my friend Eric who said they looked like a pair fo boobs, and then quickly called them Double Barrel. These are very dark and lush with rich colors. These became a gift to Rich Cornwall who has been very supportive of my flaqging.
I liked the way these came out - the red in them actually will go black under black light creating a nice difference in the lighting views. These flags became a Christmas gift to my good friend Randy (Randy Dog) and were delivered to him at the Recovery T-Dance at Club 1015 on New Year’s Day. He was about to take a flagging break, and as he was getting ready I handed them to him and he played. They were meant to be his - they looked stunning as he swirled them around and even prettier than I remembered as I made them.
Created on October 12, 2006. Thanks to Daniel I have some Pylam Blue and got the chance to play with this. I love the iris in the center - upon a close view it really looks like an iris - which was why I called this Eyes of God. These are really cool in black light - cool colors with some nice hot pink striping.
While Flagging at "Play" for President’s Day Weekend - 2007 at DNA Lounge, the DJ - Pete Jester Savas who played at Real Bad and other recent venues came up and asked me how to purchase some flags. I gave him these to enjoy - I know I want more DJs who love flaggers.
Although the picture does not show it well, these have a green and red color with seeds - so they are watermelon. This was something new to try - not tying the fabric, but simply ironing and folding and painting the dyes. This set became a gift set for Robert Sanchez in appreciation for performances he did with me for Connexus Cathedral and for SGI Japanese Exchange Students.
Another try at not tying, but simply folding and then painting on the dyes as I felt. I really like the results on this one - some reminders of the arrowhead set I have from Phillip, at least for a level of inspiration. However when these are flown, they appear as flames flickering on a dark field of blue - thus the name flicker.
This set was an experiment playing with painting dyes and opening the flags up to try things while dying.
One thing I did here was to add some Scarlet Red to the dye choices. The interesting effect is see when you look at the same set of flags under black light versus day light.
In daylight you get a fire filled spectrum of orange and yellow, like a solar flair, and then when placed under a black light, the scarlet drops out black, creating a very unique strobing or color play.
I was playing with these at Sanctuary and Brent from Denver came up and asked to borrow a set to play with. Well, he is adorable so how could I refuse. At the end, I told him he could keep the set and take them home to Denver.

Another experiment in painting the dyes onto the silk without any ties. They are close to what I hoped for, but not exactly. John thought they looked like Butterfly Wings, so the name stuck. However, the funny story with these is that I was a bit absent minded and put them in the microwave and set the time too long. Well they almost burned. Let’s say the set was completely dry when I pulled them out of the microwave. Yikes.
I gifted this set to Sven from Vancouver during my Atlantis Caribbean Cruise in March 2007.
This is my largest set I have ever attempted. These measure 72x45 - can you say bed sheets?
These are a very colorful set and a dream to fly, but a total workout. They are made for big open spaces where you can allow the silk to really open up. Otherwise, it will strangle you.
I achieved the flowers by poking a finger in and rolling the silk and then tyeing it. The rest is pretty standard.
These are 8mm silk with 4 weights in them They are heavy and require a large wing span to fly. Once they open up, the are beautiful.
Created in December on a nice night with my buddy Daniel - my teacher and inspiration. I do love these. They will remain special due to when they were made.
These flags were gifted to Brad Parks at the Black Party in 2007. He was such a special guy to spend time with and we had so much fun that I thought my Candy Slice’s were something for him.
Another set in playing with painting the dyes into folded silk. These flags were fun to create, using a simple fold to the shape and then folding them over on top to create the second line of geometry. I did not tie these, but simply folded and ironed them very flat. I then took a custom die mixture I made of Yellow and Fushia (100% mix of each) and that made the orange/red lines and then used the contrasting Fuschia on the opposite side and filled with yellow. The result is a flag that looks like a flame when spun.
These flags are one of my favorite new creations. While flagging at the Amnesia Party Winter Party Weekend, I met this flagger Joey from Miami. He was flagging when I walked in and I joined him on the floor. It took several hours before we finally connected and talked. He complimented my flags and I handed them to him to try. He loved the weights and thought they were the nicest flying flags he had felt (wow). With all of that, and then telling me how old his flags were and that he never learned to make some, he offered to buy some flags from me. I could not do that, so I handed these flags over to him to keep. They now reside with Joey in sunny Miami - a piece of my creations in yet another state. I know Joey will fly withem with love and pride.
My 20th set - this is somewhat of a milestone for me. I made these for Dominick as part of a planned visit to NY. Sadly Dominick chose to pull back his friendship and then turn and sell these flags to someone. He is a sadly hurt little man seeking something I fear he will never find.
