He would really love to get it back. If you have it, please send me a message or email and

Visiting San Francisco this week 2 years, 11 months ago · ViewAllan –
A little shameless plug here – I have a blog highlighting
the club scene in San Francisco – http://www.juicyfruitjim.com.
This has a good listing of what is happening in SF at any given weekend.
My blog for this weekend will go live tomorrow.
Sadly, as I say that, and am reviewing the events coming up this
weekend, it appears we have gone into PRIDE wait mode with everyone saving
events for next weekend for the big Pride Blow out. Friday I have listed Ghetto
Disco at the End Up, where some of us have flagged out on the patio on any
given evening. Saturday is a party called Launch at the Regency Center, being
run by our dance radio station Energy 92.7. While I do not know how
flagger friendly this event will be, I do believe there will be flaggers at the
space. It is a large ballroom space with room to dance.

Can you confirm with who you have heard from? I sent in a note, and presume I
am on the list, but if you do not hear you do not know. Also, is this a place
the family can chill out as well as store flag and fan and poi stuff? Over the
past few years the "lounge" part of this has been very rewarding time of
fellowship and sharing and a chance to get away from the party for a break with
the family. Thanks again for arranging this. I know this is extra effort to get it to
happen. If you can confirm to the list who you have for the master list that
would be great.Looking forward to seeing all the flaggers, fanners and poi spinners in my
extended family this weekend.Hugs, peace, kisses and light!

Industry – January 17 – Flagging Stage 3 years, 4 months ago · ViewHey Flaggers and Flow Artists –
Great news for the next Industry at Mighty.
Luke and Jaime will be expanding the stage area and they
have black lights to put in as well. So grab your flags and spin toys, spread
the word, flagging at the next Industry, January 17, until 1AM and again from
3AM to close (a small break for the go-go dancers to take the stage). I think
this is great and exciting news, with the creation of another venue to spin
away and having another party showing support for the flagging and flow arts
community in San Francisco. Let’s make sure we show our
appreciation and get down to the party and flag. The next Industry features the
music of Jamie J Sanchez (San Francisco) and Randy Bettis (New York), which
should prove to be a nice treat. The night is also the launch of the 2009
Boy Badge program. I plan to be there and plan to dust off my flags and bring
them out for some fun at Industry – hope you will come too. After
all it is a long holiday weekend (MLK) and the following week we welcome our
new President and finally say out with the past 8 years. So, why not come
down and join the tribe and have some fun spinning away.
Check out http://www.industrysf.com

See you there.

San Francisco – December Events – Updated 3 years, 5 months ago · ViewThere is so much going on this holiday season, I was bound
to find some events I missed or some that more details became available.
With that, I present an updated list of event choices through the end of the
year and into your New Year’s Eve fun.
Friday, December 19
Ghetto Disco
The End Up, Sixth and
Harrison Street, San Francisco11PM to 1AM
Featuring DJ Robbie Martin, DJ Frank Wild, DJ Joe Hickerson
A mainstay of the Friday night dance scene, Ghetto Disco at
The End Up is a great way to kick off any weekend. This Friday, start
your final weekend before Christmas with a night great beats by a trio of great
DJs – Robbie, Frank and Joe. The music and the crowd should be
groovy and the scene a bit on the edge I am sure. Always a pleaser!
Saturday, December 20
Bearracuda
Deco Lounge, 510 Larkin
Street @ Turk, San Francisco9PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Pete ‘Jester’
Savas
As mentioned earlier, Bearracuda is a little dance party
that sometimes has some real big names, and this Saturday does not miss that
chance. As the last of the events for Bears, Cubs, and other Wildlife,
this party is hosting DJ Pete ‘Jester’ Savas of Salt Lake City and
of Real Bad XXVIII fame. Check out
this alternative Saturday night event for something different, but be ready for
a larger than life crowd, full of furry beasties!
Note to
flow artists – No space at all to use flow toys at this event.
PornstarThe Cat Club, 1190 Folsom Street, San
Francisco10PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ James Andersen and DJ Wayne Michael
I have not yet been to one of these events, but several
people have raved about them as something fun and different to do. These
are dances with a touch of porn start added to sex it up a bit. So come
down and check out the last Pornstar of 2008 and see what it is all about.
Sunday, December 21
Fresh
Ruby Skye, 420 Mason
Street, San Francisco10PM to Late
Featuring DJ
Kimberly S
This is the Fresh Holiday Party and as usual should be
packed with the party-goers looking to kick off the Christmas week in
style. Kimberly is one of the mainstays of Fresh so the music should get
your sleigh-bells dancing in the right direction.
Note to
flow artists – there is no dedicated flow arts space here, but you will
see flow artists on the main floor early and on the stage behind the DJ or near
the DJ occasionally, as well as the occasional flagger on the cat walk.
Thick
Club Eight –
1151 Folsom Street, San Francisco11PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Luke Johnstone
Luke will keep your ho-ho-holiday dance vibe going immediate
following Fresh. Maybe worth a stop by and bring some mistletoe in case
you can find that special someone to help your dance your holidays away.
Note to
flow artists – this is a small club space, but does have a box/stage like
area to the right as you get to the dance floor, so flow arts are possible,
depending on the crowd size.
Friday, December 26
Ghetto Disco
The End Up, Sixth and
Harrison Street, San Francisco11PM to 1AM
Featuring DJ Billy Carroll, DJ Scotty Thomson and DJ
Hawthorne
This is a great way to get away from the holiday
celebrations, and maybe the family as well. Head on over to The End Up
and hit the dance floor for the Friday mainstay of Ghetto Disco. Great
music, great edgy crowds, and lots of fun, and with many people visiting there
is likely to be folks you have never seen before (aka fresh meat).
Saturday, December 27
Good Time Love Club
Underground SF,
424 Haight St., San Francisco9PM to 2AM
Featuring DJ
Hawthorne and DJ Sean Greene
A groovy little dance party in a tiny little space, come
hear the beats slapped down by Hawthorne (someone is going to be busy that
night) and Sean Greene. This little party should pack a good punch and
serves as a small alternative to Industry or a warm up act to Industry/Twisted.
Industry
Mighty, 119 Utah
Street, San Francisco10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Ralphi Rosario and DJ Luke Johnstone
Looks like a great opportunity as Ralphi Rosario makes a
rare San Francisco appearance working with Luke Johnstone on the tables.
Industry is always a crowd pleaser so if you are in town, it is a great way to
end your Christmas Holiday week. I am also told that special performances
will be by Caroline Lund & Bebe Sweetbriar. Additionally, check out DJ’s
Hawthorne, DJ Pornstar & MC2 in
the Tobygo Room, hosted By Cookie Dough and
special performances by Suzan Revah,
Charisma Glitterati & the Tobygo Boys.
Sunday, December 28
Twisted After-Hours
The Cat Club, 1190
Folsom Street, San Francisco3AM to 10AM (Following Industry)
Following as an after party this time to Industry, you
should be able to find your way to a party to dance until the sun comes
up. The last Twisted After-Hours, following Black XXXMas had some of the
best music of the weekend, so hopefully this party will not disappoint as well.
Note to
flow artists – Cat Club has no real space for flow arts, but there are a couple
of boxes on either side of the dance floor, if you feel so inclined to strut
your stuff.
Wednesday, December 31
Adonis by Gus Presents
Space 550, 550
Barneveld Street, San Francisco10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Twisted Dee, DJ Alexander and DJ Blaine Soileau, plus DJ Pornstar in the Electro Room
This will be the big Gus style holiday event with a balloon
drop, champagne toast, party favors, and complimentary breakfast if you make
through the 12 hour dance marathon. Barneveld is an interesting space to
head for New Year’s Eve and is far out there if you do not drive.
Be prepared to wait long for a cab, and be careful if you choose to
drive. The musical talents should be amazing to hear as this is the San
Francisco Premiere for Twisted Dee and adding Alexander and Blaine to the list
just means more great music.
Note to
flow artists – Perfect space for flow arts – lots of black light
and a big open stage.
Thursday, January 1
Mass by Gus Presents
Club 1015, 1015 Folsom
Street, San Francisco6PM to Midnight
Featuring DJ Phil B
Gus brings back the Mass Reunion T-Dance party for New
Year’s Day. This should be a great party, if you still have the
energy, with the amazing music of Phil B. Sorry, I cannot make this one,
but I will be there in spirit with you.
Note to
flow artists – Club 1015 has a dedicated stage area in the main dance
room that has new black lighting that is aimed at the stage. So bring out
your flow toys and have a blast.
That takes you through an updated journey in December and
into 2009.
Yours truly will be leaving the city for Chicago for
Christmas Eve to visit with extended family, closely followed by a trip to London
with my friends where we will spend New Year’s Eve at the RVT (Royal Vauxhall Tavern)
followed by what should be an amazing party called Love Muscle at the Fridge,
but then again I will be with my close friends (extended family) and that is
good enough for me. Then we all catch the EuroStar to Belgium on New
Year’s Day to attend La Demence in
Brussels. So if you are in jolly old England, feel free to stop by and join us
in some New Year celebrations.
Wishing you the happiest of holidays and I hope to see you
soon under the magical dance floor lights!

JuicyFruits Final Picks of 2008 for San Francisco 3 years, 5 months ago · ViewI cannot believe it is already time for the holidays. Before
you know it we will bid farewell to 2008 and usher in a New Year –
2009. It is unbelievable at times that around 10 years ago we were
starting the worrisome rush towards the Y2K melt down, and what was going to be
the end of the world. So here we are, just short of 10 years later and I
find myself hopeful and optimistic about a brighter future. The holiday season
can be a bit of a challenge for many people with emotions running higher than
normal and money running shorter than ever. However, the holidays can
also show us all the is potentially good and right with the world, brings us
closer to our friends, and reminds to spend just a little more time on each
other. But before that, I give you words from verse two of my favorite
Christmas Song, The Christmas Waltz (Sammy Cahn & Julie Styne as recorded
by The Carpenters (and many others) in 1978):
“It’s
that time of year, when the world falls in love. Every song you hear seem to
say ‘Merry Christmas, may your New Year dreams come true’.
And this song of mine, in three-quarter time, wishes you and yours, the same
thing, too!”
So, with that, here are my Final Picks of 2008, covering the
events of early December with more updates coming as I get them for New
Year’s Eve.
Saturday, December 6
Bearracuda
Deco Lounge, 510 Larkin
Street @ Turk, San Francisco9PM to 3AM
Featuring Dee Jay Pee Play
and DJ Medic
Bearracuda is a little dance party with often new and up and
coming talent or sometimes some real big names as well. The party bills
itself as an event for Bears, Cubs, and other Wildlife and is held every first
and third Saturday at the Deco Lounge. I often coin this as having a
dance party in your living room because it has food, socializing a small dance
floor and a fun, furry, and frolicking crowd. Check it out as something
different to do on a Saturday.
Note to
flow artists – No space at all to use flow toys at this event.
Sunday, December 7
Matinee
Temple Night Club
(in the Catacombs), 540 Howard Street, San Francisco6PM to Midnight
Featuring DJ Luke Johnstone and DJ Tony Moran
Since this event has moved into the Catacombs – the
lower level of Temple night club – it has seemed like it has become a bit
more fun, darker, sexier, and groovier, than a typical T-dance. This
event is special in that it also will be celebrating the birthday of DJ Tony
Moran. Pairing the music styling of Luke Johnston and Tony Moran should
lead to a night with some great energy and entertainment and the perfect way to
start off your December party circuit. Special note here, this is being
billed as the final Matinee and the end of the run for this party, but never
fear a new event is being planned to replace this come 2009.
Note to
flow artists – while Temple and the Catacombs do not have a specific flow
arts performance space, it is not unusual to see flaggers and fanners along the
back area by the DJ booth.
Thick
Club Eight –
1151 Folsom Street, San Francisco11PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Frank Wild
Frank Wild will be sure to keep some darker sexier energy
pumping at Club Eight as Thick takes the party after hours following
Matinee. So for those of you with that can stay up late or do not have
obligations on Monday, certainly go check this event out.
Note to
flow artists – this is a small club space, but does have a box/stage like
area to the right as you get to the dance floor, so flow arts are possible,
depending on the crowd size.
Saturday, December 13
Black XXXMas by Industry and Gus Presents
Club 1015, 1015 Folsom
Street, San Francisco10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Abel, DJ
Jaime J Sanchez and DJ Wayne G
This is the last big leather dance party of 2008, so dress
dark and sexy and come out and hear the sound made famous at the Alegria events o f New York City with
DJ Abel. Abel brings a darker tribal grove to the dance floor and with the
leather touch on top it should drive the crowds into a fun frenzy. Add to
that the styles of Jaime J Sanchez and Wayne G and you have a party that should
not be missed. I hear the new lighting also makes for a huge improvement
at the Club 1015 space, so make sure you give yourself time to leave and
holiday house party your are attending. In my opinion, if you make only
one dance event in December, do your best to make this the one. However,
be sure you ready yourself and keep the party going at the Twisted afterhours
(details below)
Note to
flow artists – Club 1015 has a dedicated stage area in the main dance
room that has new black lighting that is aimed at the stage. So bring out
your flow toys and have a blast.
Sunday, December 14
Twisted After Hours
The Cat Club, 1190
Folsom Street, San Francisco3AM to 10AM (yes you read that right – a wee hours of the morning party)
Featuring DJ David Harness and DJ Ted Eiel
Following as a morning party to Black XXXMas, this should be
one heck of an after-hours event. The music of David Harness coupled with
the DJ I can never rave enough about, Ted Eiel, means a great combination of
chunky house groves and an after-hours party that is supercharged with a great
energy for all kinds of high jinks.
Note to
flow artists – Cat Club has no real space for flow arts, but there are a
couple of boxes on either side of the dance floor, if you feel so inclined to
strut your stuff.
Saturday, December 20

November Update – Thanksgiving Time 3 years, 6 months ago · ViewWow, where has this month gone. Thanksgiving is here
already next week, and I can hardly believe it. The fun kicks off
starting this Sunday on the dance floor and I hope you will join me for some of
that fun times. However, whatever you do, I hope you are with the ones
you love and take a moment to be thankful for something special in your
lives. Ok, here is the mid-November update – it’s
Thanksgiving!
SUNDAY – NOVEMBER 23
FreshRuby Skye – 420
Mason Street, San Francisco6PM to Midnight
Featuring DJ Wayne G,
an all time favorite of mine, this party is always a crowd pleaser. The
event starts at 6PM and usually has a discounted entry by 630PM, and while a
smattering of boys and men will be here to dance earlier, the crowd really
picks up at about 8PM. However, with the evenings getting dark earlier
this might start picking up early again. The music should be pure Wayne
G, high energy, vocals, anthems, and fun, fun, fun, with a great crowd and
usually some very hot go-go dancers.
Notes
to flaggers and flow artists: This club does not have a dedicated
flagging space, but often on the main dance floor early is acceptable, and
sometimes behind the DJ booth as well, and just on rare occasions, some
flaggers have been allowed and even asked to spin on the catwalk above the
stage.
ThickClub Eight – 1151 Folsom Street,
San Francisco11PM to 3AM
Featuring DJ Luke
Johnstone, a good friend and someone I have enjoyed since the very first
time I heard him spin at Flagging in the Park. The club is a small space,
excellent for an afterhours space, and the music should carry you off to your
Thanksgiving week festivities.
Notes
to flaggers and flow artists: This club does not have a dedicated
flagging space.
SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 29
IndustryMighty – 119 Utah, San
Francisco10PM to Late
Featuring DJ Luke
Johnstone and Robbie Martin will
be spinning at what has come to be one of my favorite Saturday night
parties. I can always count on a little fun, a little frivolity, some
friskiness, and a pleasant night out. Luke is always a favorite DJ of mine,
having met him for the first time at a Flagging in the Park event in the AIDS
Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park a couple years ago. I have overtime gotten
to know Luke and come to see him as a friend and an amazing producer full of
energy for the love of the events in San Francisco. Additionally, I had
the pleasure of working the coat check and spending some fun times with Robbie
Martin at Bay of Pigs this year, so I am anxious to hear him on the tables
again.
Notes
to flaggers and flow artists: There really is no flagging option at this
party; however, early on the main dance floor is always an option.
BlowoffSlims – 333 11th, San
Francisco10PM to 2AM
A rather successful event comes back for another round in
San Francisco and it seems that folks are flying in from all over for this one
again. So, take a stop by for some groovy tunes and a fun beefy sexy
crowd. This is a great place to start your night and then end at a later
event (maybe Industry?) if you have the energy.
Notes
to flaggers and flow artists: There really is no flagging option at this
party.
That wraps up the Thanksgiving suggestions from the Juice
Box. Sorry I have no reviews from last weekend, but I never made it out
of the house to enjoy the parties for the weekend. Also, stay tuned for
December, as Black XXXMas Returns for a little leather holiday dance feast!
See
you soon under the magical dance floor lights!

TEAse T-Dance – SUNDAY 3 years, 6 months ago · ViewTEAse by Industry Mist – 316 11th St between Folsom & Harrison6PM to Midnight
This is an all new space with an all new party and put
together by the talented Industry team. DJ
Luke Johnstone, John LePage and Don Tix will be on deck to kick this new
party off at this new 2 level space which has a glass dance floor that looks down
on the main dance floor (talk about something really cool). This event will be
a benefit to the AIDS Emergency Fund. So come out to this one to see the
new space and check out a new SF event.
Luke is offering the upstairs dance floor space (the glass
dance floor) for flagging as well as a $10 door charge to flaggers rather than
$15 at the door. Hope to see some of you there.

Reviews and Picks – the Juiciest Bits! 3 years, 7 months ago · ViewWow! This has been an incredible run of parties and events
and in typical San Francisco style, there is almost too much to do!
Here are my latest reviews of events that happened and a
refresher course on what is up and coming for the rest of October.
REVIEWS
Love Fest
The San Francisco Love
Fest was another great installment of the ultimate participatory parade and
festival. The musical choices are always fantastic and the event is
filled with costumed party revelers of all ages and types, and this year was no
different. The overnight rain and potential threats of more on Saturday
held the crowd down early, but once everyone realized the sun was shining, they
all headed out for a crazy party that pushed the limits at Civic Center.
We roamed through the circuit of dance stages about 4 times and after 5 hours
called it a day. Certainly a great event and it gets 4 out of 5 water
bottles from me.
Matinee
Tony Moran kicked
some serious groves at Temple Night Club
as the Matinee Team pulled off another great party in the Catacombs. This was a
fun night, and the glow stick brigade made another showing to bring a little
glow stick love to the crowd and DJ (watch for us at other events soon).
The party was fun, hot, and filled with a sexy and fun crowd. Luke and
the guys get another 4 our 5 bottles of water for a great event.
Remember the Red Party
DJ Jerry Bonham spun
an amazing set from the time the doors opened until yours truly had to depart
the party just before midnight. The event was well attended and maybe a
little too hot, but a great crowd with lots of smiles on their faces. The
new back wall of twinkling lights on the stage was a nice addition to the
ambience for RTP and the spot light (arc light) workers really did their magic
the whole night. Additionally, for most of the night, the flaggers and fanners
really put on a show on the stage. Just before I was ready to leave a party
goer came out in a mirror covered jacked and danced on the stairs of the dance
floor with the lights hitting him – it was a living mirror ball that was
loved by the crowd as you heard the cheers rise. Then, as I was leaving a
wonderful balloon drop of red balloons was dropped on the crowd, adding to a
very festive evening. The guys work hard on this party and if you close
your eyes while dancing you could almost believe you were back in nineteen
seventy-something. The RTP crew did great work and earned a 3.9 out of 4
bottles of water from me.
COMING UP
SUNDAY – OCTOBER 19
TwistedSuite One8One 181 Eddy Street
6PM to Late
The DJ Line-up includes –Chris Cox, Kio Kio, Connie
Casserole, David Harness, Pete
Avila, Foxxy
Brown, Sean Greene, Pam Hubbuck. The Twisted party made a debut on
Labor Day Weekend at Club 1015 and was instantly a great success and welcome
new addition to the party scene in San Francisco. The second edition of
this party, a T-Dance, is going to be held at a new location, which is just
enough excitement to get me interested in going to see the space and see what
it has to offer. I look forward to another great installment of Twisted
fun. Flaggers should note that the space does not have super high
ceilings, so flagging is optional but more reserved in style.
Paradise T-DanceClub 1015 1015 Folsom Street
6PM to Late
The DJ line-up includes Kimberly
S, Lee
Decker and Blaine Soileau with a
special performance by Bobby Viteritti,
plus other DJs in the other rooms. Gus Presents is trying something
different and giving another go around for the Sunday T-Dance in San
Francisco. This should be an interesting event, and with competition from
Twisted it will be interesting to see how the crowd picks the night. I plan
on hitting this party after a start at Twisted. Flagging and flow arts should
be open on the main stage.
SUNDAY – OCOTBER 26
Fresh T-DanceRuby Skye 420 Mason Street
6PM to Midnight
DJ Phil B, a
personal favorite and friend, will be at the decks for Fresh at Ruby Skye for
the Halloween event. I have to say that I always love how Ruby Skye
decorates for Halloween. The entire club is transformed into a haunting
style that cannot be missed. I am sure this event will attract costumed
and non-costumed alike, for what should be an evening of great music and
fun. If you can make only one costumed Halloween event, this might be one
of the best choices. As a note to flaggers, there is usually a very
limited amount of space behind the DJ for one or two flaggers, but not much
more, and I often find you can flag in the balcony if you want.
FRIDAY – OCOTBER 31
Twisted presents AsylumWarehouse Space at 511 Harrison Street
10PM to 4AM
DJ David Knapp and Paulo, two personal favorites, are advertised in
the early emails that went out, to be on for this party, as well as a host of
others. While I am not sure I am going to this event, it should be a fun
Halloween Party, and if I have rested enough that week, I may find my way over
to this event with “costume light” for the evening. Note to
the flaggers and flow artists; David and the crew promise to bring in black
light for this event and maybe even some boxes, so there should be some
flagging opportunities here.
And for the very future focused…
SUNDAY – FEBRUARY 15, 2009
Past Curfew Presents PLAY T-DanceDNA Lounge 375 Eleventh Street
5PM to Midnight
This is a bit of self-promotion here, and in the interests
of full disclosure, I am part of the Past Curfew Production board, but we are
planning to bring you a top notch talent, direct from London’s RVT (Royal Vauxhall Tavern),
DJ
Andy Almighty. This will be on IBR
(International Bear Rendezvous) Weekend and should be another great event
from the Past Curfew Team (self promotion aside).

Juicys October Party Picks for San Francisco 3 years, 7 months ago · ViewHello revelers! Hope you have all recovered well from
the events of Folsom Weekend in San Francisco. Personally, I am still
basking in the afterglow of all that happened, and will be holding out on
posting a review of Folsom Weekend, seeing as so many have posted
already. What I will say is that the three events I attended, Bearracuda
Magnum (DJ Pete Savas and Ted Eiel), Magnitude (DJ Paul Goodyear) and Real Bad
XX (DJ Tim Jones) have left me with a great feeling that SF club scene is alive
and well and still has plenty to offer. Congratulations to all the
promoters on a great Folsom Weekend.
However, the fun has only started, and I now bring you the
next round of Juicy Picks for the party scene in San Francisco.
SATURDAY – OCTOBER 4 – Noon to 6PMStarting at Market and 2nd Street and ending in Civic Center
Come rain or shine (yes forecast is calling for rain), the San Francisco Love Fest is an event that
is not to be missed. This event, with heritage to the Love Parade of
Berlin, is an electronic music festival with a slice of burning man, topped
with crazy costumes and party goers, all on a lovely plate of San Francisco
fun. Flow artists (flaggers, fanners and poi spinners) and party goers
alike will love this event seeing as it has something for just about
everyone. My advice is to meet the parade near 2nd and Market
Streets and listen for the music that grabs you. Once you find that
perfect sound that calls you to move with it, join right in the parade and
dance up Market Street to Civic Center where all of the floats combine into an
amazing round-a-bout of musical experience. Wear plenty of sunscreen (if
it does not rain), make some new friends, wear something fun or silly, and just
have a good time.
SUNDAY – OCTOBER 5 – 11AM to 6PMCastro Street and Market Street
While certainly not as wild as the Folsom Street Fair last
weekend, the Castro Street Fair is more of the local home edition for the folks
in the hood, with a smattering of arts, crafts and interesting wares for
sale. As usual there will be a variety of music stages for your enjoyment
with something for all dance interests and for all flow artists. This
fair tends to be a nicer, lazier day, of socializing with friends and hanging
out to see the interesting performances and listen to some music.
My preferred choice will be the Braindrops Dance area where DJ Luke Johnstone (personal favorite)
and DJ Jim Hopkins will be
tearing up the floor with some dance beats and probably the most likely place
for flow artists to come spin away. However, if you are into the country
scene (which I also love) you can check out the Sundance Country Dance area located
behind the Castro Theater.
SUNDAY – OCTOBER 5 – 6PM to MidnightTemple Night Club – 540 Howard
StreetDJ Tony Moran, DJ Luke Johnstone, DJ Jamie Sanchez
Sunday night Tony
Moran will heat up the beats, along with resident DJs Luke Johnstone and Jamie Sanchez, at Temple Night Club as the Matinee Team
brings you another great event in the Catacombs of the Temple. While this
is not really a flow arts friendly space, the music should be great and the
Catacombs have a unique, low ceiling venue, that creates a different, fun,
intimacy. Check this venue out for a little Sunday fun.
SUNDAY – October 12 – Noon to 12AMBurning
Man Decompression – 19th and Minnesota
For those of you that attended Burning Man, this is the
culmination of the return home and a chance to once again see your favorite
art, hear your favorite music, and dance away a Sunday afternoon. Fun
costumes are suggested and this place will be abundant with artists so flow
artists should feel very much at home with flags, fans and poi at this event.
SUNDAY – October 12 – 6PM to 3AMRemember the Red Party –
Trocadero Transfer – 520 Fourth StreetDJ Jerry Bonham
If you are not attending Decompression or if you can peel
yourself away, Remember the RED Party is
also happening on October 12. This is a great party to throw some
flashback memories on for the disco era. The music is something I find
very easy to enjoy and dance to, and harkens back to the days of bell bottoms
and polyester. The party is always a great mixed crowd of all ages and
includes a stage where old school fanners meet new school flaggers and have a
celebration of flow arts. On the floor is a combination of appropriately
stylized disco drags, jeans, clone wear, and more. This annual party is a
particular favorite of mine.
SUNDAY – October 19 – 6PM to LateTwisted – Suite One8One – 181 Eddy Street
DJ Line-up includes –Chris Cox,
Kio Kio, Connie
Casserole, David Harness, Pete
Avila, Foxxy
Brown, Sean Greene, Pam Hubbuck.
Another installment of Twisted is something I am also really
looking forward to. After a killer party at 1015 on Labor Day weekend, I
am hoping for the best as Twisted moves to a new space called Suite One8One
located just blocks from the Powell Street transit station. Billed with
another amazing line up of DJs, this is likely to be one crazy party in a new
space for this party scene. I cannot advise if this event will be flow
arts friendly, but bring your toys just in case. However the site boasts
16000 square feet of party space that is not too dirty and not to clean but
just perfect for a TWISTED party.
I am choosing not to throw my weight up against any of the
Halloween parties at this time, but there will be several to choose from, so
keep an eye out for what interests you most, and if something changes, I will
get out the word. There it is, the Juicy Picks for the next couple
weeks. Party on. See you on the dance floor.

JuicyFruits Juice Box Folsom Week Party Picks for Flaggers 3 years, 8 months ago · ViewThis week kicks off the grand daddy leather festival in San
Francisco – The Folsom Street Fair.
This event is celebrating 25 years and has grown in scale in the years I have
gone to be quite a spectacle. With a smattering of dance events, social
events, house parties, and the street fair itself, there is so much to
do. However, I encourage you to go out and get into the events,
don’t just be a spectator. So with that in mind, here are my picks
for parties and events over the next two weekends, in chronological order (with
abbreviated commentary).
SATURDAY – SEPTEMBER 20 – 10PM to LateTickets – $15 advance at Body on
Castro or $25 at the door.DJs Pagano and Luke Johnstone
This Industry is the kick off to Folsom Week with two
amazing DJ talents. Luke Johnstone who is a great DJ and producer will
certainly make the room come alive along with the sexy beats of DJ
Pagano. Both of these guys have never let me down. Additionally, this is
West Coast premiere of “Schwartzwald”, the movie you can dance
to. Should be a fun crowd and a great party with a smattering of leather
clad men, hot muscle, and fun party goers. Industry is not typically a
flagging space, there are always opportunities early in the night to flag on
the dance floor and with the “Schwartzwald” premiere there will
potentially be flagging. Besides, I know Luke and the team always
appreciate flaggers.
FRIDAY – SEPTEMBER 26 – 9PM to LateBearracuda Magnum – DNA Lounge,
375 Eleventh with DJ Pete SavasTickets – $10 in advance at DNA Lounge Web
SiteTag Team set with DJ Pete Savas and DJ Ted Eiel
This is round two for the Bearracuda folks with Magnum at
DNA Lounge. As mentioned in other reviews, this is my favorite space for
small venue with flagging and dancing space. I am working with the
Bearracuda guys to be sure black lights are in place for the stage and this is
a great flagging venu. Two great DJ’s, Pete Savas and Ted Eiel,
doing a tag team set on the decks that night. I hope to get a good dose
of good chunky house music with a shot of lyrics to make it all go down providing
ample time to flag. Ok, and there is possibly one better thing about this
event, in the fact that the poster child for this event is my best friend (yes
– just go check it out kids and you will know who it is).
SATURDAY – SEPTEMBER 27 – 10PM to 4AMMagnitude –The
Regency Center – 1290 Sutter St. (At Van Ness)Tickets – $65 on line, $80 Retail and $100 at the door (if available) (See
Magnitude Website for Ticket Details)DJ Paul Goodyear
Magnitude is a premier dance event in San Francisco for the
Leather Weekend, and certainly the place to be seen prior to the Sunday Street
Fair. DJ Paul Goodyear has always thrown down great sets of music, perfectly
fitting the event. Paul can range from handbags, to fluff, to deep sexy
grooves, and always has an appealing set as far as I am concerned. This
is a high leather gear party, while not required, gear, fetish wear, and
leather is encouraged. This will be a sexy and dark party with an array
of hot guys, bears, leather clad studs, and muscle galore. The venue is
new to me for the dance scene, having only been there for a couple other
events, so that part is yet to be seen. However, if you want the Saturday
night ticket for Folsom Weekend, and you are not too busy at some
“private” party, be sure to get your tickets early and get to
Magnitude. I understand a flagging space will be created at
the Regency Center and black light will be provided. Suggest, due to the
mode of this party that you keep the flag colors more muted and deep reflecting
the deeper, sexier energy that Magnitude if famous for.
SUNDAY – SEPTEMBER 28 – Noon to 6PMThe Folsom Street Fair– Folsom
Street from 10th to 7thTickets – Suggested donation collected at gate
While not likely I will make it out to much, if any, of the
street fair, this is an event not to be missed. The fair runs from 10th
to 7th along Folsom Street with vendors, drinking, dancing and
entertainment, oh and then there is the crowd of hot leather clad folks.
Check it out – this is the main attraction of the weekend. Weather
looks to be good, so dress in layers to reveal some skin through the sun of the
day. One of my favorite things to do at this street fair is to just hang
out with friends along Dore Alley next to the Power House bar and watch the
crowd pass by. The endless parade of people is really the best part of
the event, and you never know what you might see (or what you did not want to
see – as is often the case). However, save some energy, because
when the sun goes down, there is one more event I want you to go to.
There are lots of great dance opportunities at Folsom and
many top name DJs. With that comes plenty of room to get your groove on
and open space for flagging. Watch for the winds and watch the crowds,
but great opportunities to flag to your heart’s cotent.
SUNDAY – SEPTEMBER 28 – 7PM to 4AMReal Bad– Club 1015 – 1015 Folsom Street
Tickets – See the Web Site
DJ Tim Jones
I should preface this statement with a clear
disclaimer. I am part of the production team for this event and
JuicyFruitJim.com is also a proud sponsor of Real Bad XX. So with that
said, this is a great party. I attended this once as a spectator and
quickly found myself on the host list and participating in the production of
the party. This party has a lot to offer including flagging stage, a
great club space, and an amazing chill out area in “The Vault” with
DJ Beatdaddy, lights, cryo blasts,
and more. Come check out this community fundraiser and dance.
Tickets are most easy to come by if you know a host, if not ask your friends,
check Craig’s list, or be one of the few at the door to pick up one of
the very limited tickets at the door.
The stage will be bathed in lots of black light for use by
flaggers and flow artists. The stage will be open to flaggers only from
7PM until approximately 930PM and then closed until the party thins out late in
the morning (after 200AM). Sometime after that the black light will be
restored for flagging.
So, there you have it – a slice of the fruit – a
drink of nectar – JuicyFruit’s top picks for flaggers and flow
artists for Folsom Week 2008. Coming up in the next release, Castro Street Fair
Weekend, Love Parade, Burning Man Decompression, and Remember the Party –
remember I said this is the party season in San Francisco.
See you on the dance floor.

JuicyFruits Labor Day Party Picks – San Francisco 3 years, 9 months ago · ViewHowdy folks, I am just about to be wheels up for a trip to
London with my two best friends to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of
the RVT (Royal Vauxhall
Tavern) in London, but before I do that I wanted to get out some Labor Day
Weekend Information out.
Just over a week away, Labor Day Weekend is the unofficial
end to the summer season in most of the United State, but in San Francisco it
seems to kick off a high season of parties and events that end sometime around
Halloween. First and foremost, Labor Day Weekend is the start of the Harrison Street Fair , a bear centric
event filled with parties, pub events, and so much more. So if you are
like me, and have decided to skip the playa for Burning Man this year, then you will have
plenty to entertain you in San Francisco for the weekend. With that, I am presenting
JuicyFruit’s Labor Day holiday weekend party choices – a slice of
the fruits of a fantastic weekend in the making and where I intend to indulge
myself on the sweet party nectar.
FRIDAY – AUGUST 29 – 9PM to LateBearracuda Magnum – DNA Lounge,
375 Eleventh with DJ Pete SavasTickets – $10 in advance at DNA Lounge Web
SiteMain Floor with DJ Pete Savas, Upstairs
Floor with DJ’s Rotten
Robbie and Boyshapedbox
While I am not a big one to head out on Friday for more than
a beer or some time with my friends, of to just sit at home and catch up on
movies, I have to say that Bearracuda Magnum has my attention for the weekend
kick off. Matt and the Bearracuda crew are starting their 3rd year of
great parties for bears, cubs and other wildlife, by kicking out the stops to
bring their BIGGEST event ever! The party will have everything Bearracuda is
famous for, but on a larger scale, with the big lights, big sound, big dance
floor, big stage, for a great price, all at the wonderful DNA Lounge.
This is one of my favorite party venues in the city, with just enough room for
around a thousand of your close friends to party, a great sound system, a great
balcony to look down on the dance floor, and of course a stage for flagging and
poi spinning (yes – black light will be provided). I am also
excited by the DJ choices, with Pete Savas of Real Bad fame playing on the main
floor. Pete has created some great podcasts available through iTunes or
via his web site, and yours truly is
particularly honored in the fact that his set “They Eyes of God”
was inspired by flaggers he saw at a PLAY
T-Dance a couple years ago and the actual artwork for the set is from a set
of flags I created and gifted to Pete called “The Eyes of
God”. Also, Rotten Robbie threw down some great music for Lazy Bear
this weekend, and always amazes the crowd with his selections. I am sure
Pete, Robbie and Boyshapedbox will rock the place, upstairs and down.
SATURDAY – AUGUST 30 – 10PM to LateFireball at Industry – Mighty at 119 Utah
Tickets – $15 advance at Body on
CastroDJs Jaime J Sanchez and Luis Yanguas
While this event is not flagger friendly, it is at another
of my favorite dance spaces and run by one of my favorite producers in San
Francisco. Mighty is a great little club; with plenty of room, an amazing
sounds system, and Industry at Mighty is always a great party. DJ Jaime
J. Sanchez is very well known in the San Francisco club scene and should not
disappoint. The newcomer for me is Luis Yanguas, and I am excited at the
prospects of hearing him play, and you can check out his web site to get a taste of what
he has to offer for music. Fireball should be a great evening, filled
with a hot and sexy crowd, looking to get their grove on.
SUNDAY – AUGUST 31 – 10PM to 7AM (Monday)Twisted – Club 1015 – 1015 Folsom Street
Tickets – $30 on Circuit Ticket
DJ Line-up includes – Manny
Lehman, Paulo, Chad Jack, Hawthorne,
Pete
Avila, Foxxy
Brown, Sean Greene, Jeff Johnson, and Pam Hubbuck.
DJ
Hawthorne of Ghetto
Disco fame from the End Up is throwing a great party at Club 1015 and bills
the event with the headline – “9 DJ’s – 3 Floors
– One Twisted Night”. How can you not like that? This
is the new event of the weekend, and certainly the event I plan to check out,
with Club 1015 being one of my all time favorite dance spaces. Flaggers
and poi spinners will be thrilled to have access to the main stage in the main
dance room, but you have to really check out all of the spaces in this club to
get a sense of the variety this club offers. This is of course also the
home of Real Bad XX, so think of it as a
chance to get into a great dance space and enjoy everything it has to offer
before the closing event on Folsom Street Weekend. This is certainly the
party I am looking forward to, just to see what will be done with the space
here, to hear the great talent, and to share time with close friends until the
small hours of the morning (or after the sunrises on Monday).
So, there you have it – a slice of the fruit – a
drink of nectar – JuicyFruit’s top picks for Labor Day Weekend
2008. See you on the dance floor.
