S@L Flaggers Lounge List   3 years, 2 months ago · View

    I’m confused…

When Joe Cortes first asked for names of people who wanted access to the flagger
lounge at Black Party, he said it was to get a general idea how many to expect.

Now it sounds to me if one didn’t email Joe Cortes, they wouldn’t have access to
    the flagger lounge.

In past BPs, S@L had a quite liberal policy. If your name wasn’t on the list,
and you showed up with flags or fans, you would still be able to drop your toys
off. Now I’m not so sure.

    Can someone clarify this? Thanks.

Where to find black light fixtures in SF…   6 years, 5 months ago · View

Spencer Gifts sells blacklight fixtures. Last April I bought 2 four-
footers for $24.99 U.S. apiece. They use narrow bulbs, but they work
quite nicely. Usually these fixtures go for much more, but Spencer
    occasionally puts them on sale.

I don’t know if they have a Spencer Gifts in CA, but they’re in a lot
of shopping malls here on the east coast.

Now if only I could find a place to store the darn things.

    cheers,

    George

Patience, dear. The dj’s haven’t even been announced yet. Some one
will put out a call a few weeks before the event.

    > >
    > can the same be done for Alegria for Black Party Weekend?

NO. Just jump onstage and start trying to those babies, if you can
manage to throw off about three other guys.

    cheers,

Candyland Thank Yous   7 years, 4 months ago · View

To all of you who missed the Saint-at-Large "Return To Candyland"
party at the Capitale club on New Years Day in NYC. You all missed
an amazing experience. For me it was the best circuit party I’ve
ever been to, and one of the happiest memories I hold. Special
    Dankes go to the following.

To Jack, thanks for being my flagging buddy. It was awesome sharing
the box with you. Hope your back recovers soon.

To Grace. In the immortal words of Donna Summer, you’re so
beautiful. I’m amazed at how far you’ve come since last summer.

To George, the flag therapy daddy. Sorry you left so early, but it
was terrific seeing you and talking to you anyway.

To Peggy. Another first for me: the first woman’s breast I’ve ever
touched. It was an accident, but I heard no complaints. My offer
from the "Black Party Thank-Yous" still stands.

To Phillip. I know what a baby blue hanky in the right pocket
    means. Call me.

Together, Peggy and Phillip fed the boies at halftime. Peggy
staffed the cookie table, and Phillip staffed the fruit table.
Later, they quenched our bodies and souls with their beautiful
    spinning, sharing, and socializing.

And if they’re out there, to Randy Bettis and Guy Smith, for
creating that Saint experience. It is like no other. Add to the
the yellow daylight that came streaming through Capitale’s
clerestory windows. I am still on a huge high, and IT AIN’T FROM
    DRUGS.

    Happy New Year

Flagging at Hillside, One Year Later   7 years, 9 months ago · View

On September 9th, 2003 I posted an email to this board titled "Flagging
at Hillside." It described a wonderful experience I had at an all-male
clothing-optional camping resort in the Endless Mountains of
northeastern Pennsylvania. I was quite new to flagging at the time. I
had known Larry Reigel and Ted Savage for only a month, and by that time
had bought my first three pair of flags from Larry.

In my post, I proposed a "Flagger Weekend" to be held at Hillside
    Campgrounds http://www.hillsidecampgrounds.com sometime this year.
Shortly thereafter, a reply was posted to this board by a woman who
kindly made me aware of the presence of women flaggers. I am thankful
to Heather Mader for her post, and had since revised my idea for such a
weekend to take place at a more inclusive venue. This idea, born in my
naivete, never came to light. The vision remains, but my laziness has
caused me to postpone this endeavor. Stay tuned.

In the year since, my flagging has improved enormously, thanks in part
to being unemployed for six months and getting a lot of practice. I’ve
attended enough flagging events and workshops to say I am not so naïve.
I’ve entered the deep nirvana enough times to make my head pop off.
I’ve met so many beautiful men and women on the journey, and befriended
some of them. They have become family members to varing degrees. I
know it’s politically correct to use the term "community," but for me,
when we are together sharing the glorious black light, it really feels
like a family is meant to be.

So last weekend I went to Hillside again, with a group of 9 friends from
Philly who rented a site together to bond over campfire. Particularly
hilarious was Saturday morning, with our aborted team effort to erect a
huge tarp in the pouring rain. Since I was the only flagger in the
group, most of my nights were spent in the Rec Hall, which has a
remarkably bad dj. I would alternately stir the man-soup and play with
my babies, which are like my dancing partner. The fabric takes on life
of its own, creating a dialogue through the laws of physics. Though I
never see the result, I know that the dance is beautiful, regardless of
    the dj.

To the tremendous noise of train-wrecks, I met two more of my
extended-family members from Albany, whom I shall refer to as Tigerboy
and Flag-Junkie. They’re pretty fabulous too. Tigerboy and I go way
back, as he was the one who introduced me to Hillside. He has been with
his friend for Flag-Junkie is one of those people who bring a huge bag
everywhere they go. (Can anyone relate?) You should see him gasp, his
eyes wide and hands trembling as I offer to share my tie-dies. One
night Flag-Junkie busted out a light with one of my large flags. I met
another Philadelphia compatriot who spun poi. We initiated each other
to our respective art, and of course I got bruised in the process.

What does the year ahead hold for me? Since my new job severerely
limits my practice time, I’m not sure I will grow much or diversify.
Certainly there is no time to sew a pair, not that I would ever get off
my lazy ass anyway. Then again the extra income means I’ll be buying
more flags, supporting the talent, and probably splurge on fans (watch
out.) I’ll still be going to Hillside; my next visit will be Labor Day
    weekend.

Several years ago, I was in a brief affair with a leather-daddy who was
very serious and overbearing. he had very rigid ideas about how his boy
should behave, and would try to impose them on me. When I resisted, he
said that I needed to expand my horizons. Needless to say, the affair
was very brief. Thank you, all of you, for allowing me to expand my
    horizons.
