I’ve flagged for several years now.
The colors and letting go of reality.
Since 2000. I first saw flagging in a club in San Francisco and knew I had to learn more.
My first flagging experience was as an innocent bystander. I saw those beautiful colors and patterns and had to have more.
Doing a fundraiser for GLSEN. Together our flagging community helped raise over $5, 000 for this charity. The flags were used in a show at San Francisco ReUnion Party of 2002.
I picked up most of it on my own. So many have inspired and taught me. Candida Scott Piel and Michael Sigman got me going on the right track for the flourescent dyes.
I make my own out of silk and dye. Large / small / heavy / light / always bright
Outside of my house on the lawn.
Silk
, I love the way it flows under black light. My advice to beginning flaggers is to just relax, enjoy the music, dance, and let the movements come to you. Also, sometimes closing your eyes will help in finding some inner focus.

Chad Youngblood:
Hi Don! There is a photo of my birthday flags on this website! They are so lovely and I have had so much fun with them. When you first gave those to me everyone called them the "Superman Flags." Well, now I have a few matching superman t-shirts that match the flags. You will see them when come to New Orleans. I can’t wait to see you!
As for all the other Don Baker flags that I have, rest assured they are being put to very good use. I have established a sort-of flag bank. So whenever my buddies need to flag, they can take mine and go get lost (or get found) in the flags. The flags have been very theraputic to many of us suffereing through the struggles left by Katrina.
Thanks! Big Love – Chad Youngblood

Hey, this is a whole new idea for me, I don’t mess with silk, I’ve always considered it too flimsy for the patterns I’m doing. I bought some Formosul from Pro Chemical & Dye to try discharging color from some of my silk shirts, but I don’t have the gas mask or an outdoor area to prevent injury to myself-some really nasty stuff. I just stocked up on Procion MX fabric dyes to teach a tie-dye class at my local college.
If you like, unless you’ve already figured out my triangles…I could tell you how to do them, then the arrowheads are just a few more folds. I would like to try some acid dyes on cotton/silk blends, or a combination thereof. Thanks Don for inviting me to your site. rod.
