How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

One that follows the beat and creates somewhat of a choreographic style to add uniqueness to each song heard.

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

It’s a different form of dancing that fascinates me because it extends the movement of your body. I used to be somewhat conscious of dancing, but flagging has helped loosen me up tremendously. I never used to like being the center of attention, but when I get those flags spinning, having people watching me feels pretty good, like a euphoric experience.

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

I started May 10 2007. I got started by ordering a basic white pair online.

What was your first flagging experience?

My first major experience was at the PrideFest 2007 for Denver. I flagged for the Denver PFLAG group, and was the leader leading them through the parade. That was awesome!!!

What was one of your best flagging experiences?

That’s very hard to say because everytime I go out there I feel like it was my best…

Who has inspired or taught you?

Christopher, the best dancer at the club, Tracks, is what inspired me. I’ve learned a lot of the spins from watching Christopher showing them, but I’ve learned them myself through lots and LOTS of practice.

What was one of your wildest or craziest flagging experiences?

I was flagging at the club on "the box" and this chick was imitiating my moves, yet she didn’t have any flags… She then pulled out a $ bill and put down my shorts!

Do you make your own sets? Can you describe what kind you make?

I recently made my own set. I’m still in the experimental stages as far as what kind of fabric I like to use. I currently alternate between three pairs of flags, silk, nylon, and satin. I’m leaning more towards the silky side, anything else doesn’t seem to have the right feel to it.

Where do you often like to flag?

At the club, Tracks, because that’s where I first found my inspiration to learn flagging. Thanks Chris!!!

What are your favorite types of flags to work with, and why?

Silk, because they are the most lightweight and can flow with ease.

What are your favorite flagging quotes?

"There is no right or wrong, just go with your own flow"

What advice do you give to beginning flaggers?

Go with the flow and feel the beat, you gotta feel it in your body before you can feel it in the flags. If your body ain’t feeling it, your flags won’t either. Your flags are an extension of your body, pretend as if they are a part of you. Oh, and be careful not to whack yourself in the face with the weighted portions, that’s not fun!

What nice/unusual comment has anyone said to you while flagging?

The nicest comment was "Awesome, awesome, AWESOME! Best I’ve seen yet!" The most unusual comment was "Do you color guard?" I had never heard the term prior to that.
