How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

I think I would have to describe myself as a flagger in process. I am new to the art and am still working on technique. Although I am doing pretty well so far if I do say so myself. I cannot flag one night without someone coming up and wanting me to show them how to do it or they tell me it is so cool!

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

I have always loved music, clubs and glowing. This puts it all together for me. I feel like I am in my own world, like nothing else matters and I can be myself. It makes me happy, and that is what I enjoy most!

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

As I write this in January of 2006, I have only been flagging a few months. I am working every weekend on improving my endurence and technique.

I got started by finding this website and ordering my first set of flags in November 2005. Little did I know I was to run into Phillip at club S4 in Dallas a week later. I had not recieved my flags yet but did not expect them for a week or so. I introduced myself to Phillip at S4 and did not realize who I was talking to until I told him I bought some flags. I had no idea he lived in Dallas! Phillip immediately handed me a set and started showing me what to do. I like to think the meeting was fate and certainly a sign that I should be flagging. What are the chances of a meeting like that on my first trip to Dallas? The planets must have been in line.

What was your first flagging experience?

A Friday night the week before Thanksgiving 2005 I was in Dallas and ran into Phillip. We spent hours talking and he showed me how to flag. I was captivated the entire time. I loved everything about the flags and dancing with them.

What was one of your best flagging experiences?

(4-3-2006 – Update)
By far the most exhilarating experience of my life was performing at DIFFA in Dallas March 2006! I had never been able to flag in front of that many people nor had I ever "been" in front of that many people to do anything like that. The feeling was indescribable! All I could think about after the performance was doing it again… and again. . I cannot wait until the next event I can be a part of. :-)

(Previous Response – Fall 2005)
I do not have a lot of experiences yet, but so far my first time flagging at Splash in Baton Rouge, Louisiana was the best! My friends had never seen me flag yet and did not know what to expect. After the night was over and I had flagged for 3 hours, they just said it was one of the coolest things they had ever seen. :-)

Who has inspired or taught you?

Of course Phillip Bryan gets the credit for that on my first trip to Dallas! He is so amazing in so many ways!

What was one of your wildest or craziest flagging experiences?

None yet, but I am hoping to have a crazy experience at the Red Party in Houston on Feb 11 at Rich’s!

Do you make your own sets? Can you describe what kind you make?

I have not made my own set yet. I have two sets, one I ordered called the "Hexapodia" which are my favorite, and a larger set that Phillip gave me when I was in Dallas. I love the large set when I have room!

Do you have an ultimate flagging experience that you would like to achieve, but have not yet?

I am waiting for the ultimate experience. I am sure it will happen in due time but I am certainly having fun along the way!

Do you have a wish for what happens to your flags after you leave this world?

When I leave this world I have planned a very large party in addition to my funeral. I imagine and hope for it to be like a circuit party! That might seem strange, but I would not want everyone to cry all day. I would want them to share in memories of me and have a chance to party it up for me! Of course there would be an open bar! I would want a flagger buddy to use my flags at the party for all to see in my memory and then keep them when the party was over.

    Dear Christopher J,

Just surfing the web and ran across you on flaggerboy.com. I read your profile and I want to encourage you to continue your growth!!!

In the beginning, I experienced an epiphany each time I picked up the flags. I am flagging 4 years now and it keeps getting better. I just saw the picture of you in the black light with the Phillip Baker flags and had another moment…. working in negative space… wow!

I’m not much of a joiner, but flaggers are the best people I’ve ever met. Welcome brother!!! Love, Marguerite
