How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

More eager than experienced. I’m in awe of the beauty, power and mesmerizing color of flagging. Constantly working to overcome my natural lack of coordination. But the feeling of the flow to the music that seems to drive my pulse is overpowering. So I do what I can and I love what I can do. Meanwhile I watch those I admire and absorb all I can. Flag on!


What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

I do it for the love of the music. Something about the motion of the fabric in time to the music is hypnotic, it’s beyond describing. The euphoria of that connection is amazing. The best explanation I can give people is that it’s like flying.


Where do you often like to flag?

The drum circle at Eeyore’s Birthday in Austin is one of the best settings for flagging in the world. The other is the drum circle at the Tam Tam Jam, every Sunday in Montreal. Of course, bars and circuit parties are great, too, but you can’t beat an outdoor event for giving you the space and freedom to cut loose. Oh! And I love Flagging in the Park in Dallas.

    Hello, all,

    has anyone tried the Versatex Fabric Paint available from
    Dharma? It comes in a variety of "flourescent" colors, and before
    I buy it woud be nice to know if they really do react under
    blacklights.

    My apologies if this has already been discussed.

    And on that note: does this group have an "archivist" who can
    compile and update articles or files and upload them to the
    Yahoo group based on new information provided by the
    members? I would volunteer, but with my level of involvement
    here in Austin, I would be a lousy archivist. It’s too bad there is no
    central source for all this information, kind of an online
    equivalent of the leather museum in Chicago. Lots of scattered
    sources are researching flagging’s history and other details, but
    that info is not centrally available.

    Just a thought.

    Just to open, it was wonderful seeing so many flaggers at
    International Mr. Leather. We truly walk all worlds! I learned a lot
    and shared my flags with some beautiful men.

    One in particular I would like to reach. We met at the Onyx party,
    and I thought I heard your name right, but the music was loud
    and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of your flagging. You gave
    me a set of orange flags with black bands. I’d like to keep in
    touch, and properly thank you for your gift–both of the flags, and
    for inspring me with your flagging.

    Also, another thank you to the sexy couple that I shared my flags
    with at the Black and Blue Ball. If you’re out there, know that
    watching you spin was a treat.

    Who knew IML would be a hotbed of flagging? It was a pleasant
    surprise to see the art of flagging and the world of leather
    coming together.
