How would you describe yourself as a flagger?

Very much a beginner. OW! Those weights can really hurt ya!

What is it about flagging that you enjoy the most?

Does "hearing color" make sense? I think so. Its a culmination of so many stimuli in one package.

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

TFW5 would be the start. It all started with offering to help Phillip with some of the weekend events, and then I kinda got sucked into it all.

Who has inspired or taught you?

Teachers come from all around me. Inspiration comes from Phillip because he is such a good friend. I also gleaned a lot of inspiration from Britt, Daniel Van Olst, and Aaron Akin in many different ways. This list could go on and on. I could watch Patric and Joe for days!

  • July 4 weekend will be here before you know it, and flaggers in Dallas are gearing up for this year’s Fla gger Weekend 6.

Registration for ALL the activities (including meals) is now available on the Flagger Weekend website (http://www.flaggerweekend.com ). Rooms at our host hotel, the luxury Warwick Melrose, are starting to fill up, and you have until June 26, 2009 to receive the special Flagger Weekend rate. This is a special rate bellow their special summer rates, and is close to $100 less than their normal rates throughout the year.

New classes have been added, including a “Taste-Test” to introduce you to other flow arts. If you are a seasoned flagger, we have a new class, “Moving Beyond Technique,” designed to help you break patterns and rediscover growth and exploration in the art.

We have more time than ever at the tie-dye stations (13 hours!) so you have plenty of time to dye as many sets as you like. Standard-sized, large, and lightweight 5mm flag kits are available.

Classes will fill up quickly, so pre-registration is encouraged. We are very excited about this year’s Flagger Weekend and hope you will join us.

Hi all! For those of you who liked DJ Pete Savas’ CD in the TFW5 Welcome Bags, I wanted to point you all to his podcast, which I have been enjoying a lot.

Heaven’s Reach (the CD in the gift bag) was included in the podcast a couple of episodes ago, and I am really liking the newest episode "Blacklight."

One week left for article submiisions – Guide to Flagging   3 years, 11 months ago · View

    Hello all!

Only a week is left to submit articles for this year’s Texas Flagger Weekend
    Souvenir
    Program!

This year we’re expanding the program and want to invite flaggers to submit
    articles. We
would like to include as much information about the arts of flagging, fanning,
    and poi as
we can. Topics include movement techniques, creation techniques, philosophy,
    history,
etiquette, getting started, resources, and anything else you might think to fall
    under the
title of "Flagging and the Flow Arts".

We are very interested in articles on fan dancing, both on construction and use.

The souvenir booklet will be available at Flagger Weekend. Contributors will
    also receive a
copy. We will create extra copies and will make them available at cost to
    everyone.

Our deadline for submission is June 6, in order to meet our printer’s deadline.
    High
resolution pictures are encouraged — the entire book is full color!

If you’d like to submit an article or have something already, (or have any
    questions) please
    contact Alan Gentry at alan@….
