My History

How long have you been flagging? How did you get started?

I have been flagging since January 2008. My partner, Russ, and I were out dancing one night and some of the flaggers in Dallas happened to be out the same night. My friend RJ let me borrow a pair of his flags and taught me a few of the basic moves. He also introduced me to Phillip and some of the others. RJ was nice enough to let me take home a set of his flags and told me not to give them back until I was ready.

After 3 months of practicing, I was ready to join a few of the guys on stage at Purple Party. A month later, Phillip asked me if I would like to flag on stage at IML, and of course I said yes! Before I left, I purchased my first set from him and returned RJ’s flags. By Flagger Weekend, I had made 2 sets with Phillip, and another 2 at FW.


What was your first flagging experience?

Dallas Purple Party 08. I was so nervous about getting on stage in front of my home town crowd. Everyone I knew was going to be there. I started on the side of the stage and was very timid and nervous, but by the end of the night I had let go and was in the middle of the stage by myself flagging to the music and for the crowd.


Where do you often like to flag?

I usually practice at home by myself or for my partner, but occasionally go out to S4 in Dallas to dance and flag. Although the crowd is not the best, the music is decent and I have plenty of room to flag. My favorite place to flag is circuit parties, as long as there is enough room.

    I'll be heading to the White Party in Las Vegas in October.  Are any other flaggers planning on attending any of the parties?  Would love to find people to spin with.
